tri'n
So the tri is finally over! Overall, I had an awesome time but ended up falling a little short of my personal goals. My times:
SWIM: 33:16
SWIM TO BIKE TRANSITION: 2:44
BIKE: 1:24:58
BIKE TO RUN TRANSITION: 2:04
RUN: 1:08:34
FINISH 3:11:34
The swim went well, almost better than expected. I held back a little bit during the swim because I didn't want to waste more energy than necessary. Once I transitioned to the bike, I felt strong. I got passed by a ton of bikers, but I found out later I was the first mountain bike to finish the long course, so I felt good about my efforts. Once I got on the run, things took a turn for the worse. I made the first mile gingerly while stocking up on some energy gel. On mile two is when the fun began and I got my first of three leg cramps. I stopped and walked three different times, but I tried to make my stops as short as possible. My run ended up being horribly slow at a +11 minute mile pace, but I figure if you take out the cramping I may have been able to crack the 3 hour barrier.
Looking back, I had a great time! I remember my first tri feeling miserable and undertrained. This time things were different. I trained smarter and was much better prepared for the race. I think when I do another one in the future, I'm going to have to get my running up to par and work on keeping myself hydrated.
As for Jason and Kelly, the ended up doing about as bad as one can do. Now granded, they both finished the tri which isn't something to be ashamed of at all. However, they both finished in last place in their respected age division.
