other racers

So I called Meyer up, who's on his drive over from Sconny.  I asked him how he's doing and if he's ready for the tri.  The rest of the conversation went like this:

Me: "So, you ready?!"
Jason: "Nope."
"No?"
"Nope."
"Oh.  So how’s your swimming look?"
"Terrible."
"Terrible; really?"
"Yup."
"Have you swam a half mile yet without stopping?"
"(laugh) nope... I'm defiantly going to have to rest."
"Huh."
"Yup, my goal is to finish."
"So are you going to float out in the middle of the lake?"
"Yea, I figure I'll stop three or four times."
“Hmm.  So how about the bike?”
“Oh, the bike and run won’t be a problem for me, only the swim.  However, the swim is going to be easy for Kelly.  She’s just going to struggle during the bike and run.”

Geez.  How can you train for 4 AND a half months and not swim a stinking half mile??  My guess is his training effort had to be minimal at best.  I think the real question is, did he train at all?  We shall see, and tomorrow he may regret being drunk around me and being talked into doing a triathlon.  I think the BEST part of the whole day is going to be seeing his face when he first sees the 1/4 mile buoy waaaaaaaay out in the middle of the lake and realizes how far a half mile is.  I can't wait!!
